Wreaths Across Canada

Wreaths Across Canada (WAC) is a non-profit organization that specifically honours veterans buried in Canada.

Not all of them died in battle, although many served in combat and peacekeeping missions, and during the Cold War. Some gave their lives or were wounded in training accidents or during peacekeeping operations, but all of them responded to their country’s call, prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice.

WAC is based on the Wreaths Across America organization that started in 1992 at Arlington National Cemetery in Virigina.  It was in 2009 that Wreaths Across Canada NL was started by D. Wayne Evans to honour his father, Fred Evans, a gunner in the 166th Newfoundland.

For the 2013 Season, WAC NL gratefully acknowledged the support of a number of contributors, including McConnell Transport Ltd., of Woodstock, NB

The wreaths that are used are made of real balsam fir boughs purchased from Bell Woodlots Ltd. in Bristol, NB, not far from the McConnell Transport head office.

If you wish to support the Wreaths Across Canada in Newfoundland, check into the WAC website at wacnl.ca.

McConnell Transport Helps Local Kids

P.R.O. Kids is a program that is run by the Western Valley Recreational Association (www.wvra.ca).  Their goal is to provide assistance to as many children and youth (18 & Under) as possible, who, due to lack of funds, are unable to participate in sport, art, recreational or cultural activities.

P.R.O. Kids’ vision is that all children residing in the Western Valley Recreation Association area (Nackawic to Plaster Rock) have the opportunity to participate in recreation activities that boost their self esteem and promote their healthy growth through the learning of new skills, increased knowledge and personal development.

National Trucking Week 2013

McConnell Transport Ltd recently celebrated National Trucking Week, which ran from September 1 – 7, 2013. Every driver and employee was treated to a “goodie” bag that was filled with great items, all courtesy of our generous suppliers. There was also a great BBQ put on for everyone in attendance as well as draws for a great number of fantastic door prizes! It was certainly a very successful week, and we are already looking forward to NTW 2014!100_9347

Check out these skirts!

100_8642 (2)At McConnell Transport we are pleased with our addition of trailers equipped with SmartWay verified, advanced side skirts. These side skirts will not only improve our fuel economy but help prevent heavy snow and ice buildup, reduce road spray that is common in rainy conditions and help us to minimize the carbon footprint we leave behind. This is just one example of our focus on fuel efficiency.
