Canada Moves by Truck!

CanadaMovesByTruck

The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA), the country’s national trucking group, in conjunction with the provincial trucking associations, launched National Trucking Week many years ago. It begins on the first Sunday in Sept. and runs to the following Saturday.

The purpose of the weeklong celebration is to recognize the important contributions made by the 400,000 Canadian men and women who keep the country’s freight moving.

Provincial trucking associations, carriers, industry suppliers and other stakeholders are encouraged to undertake activities in their own province to mark the event. In previous years, provincial associations have marked the occasion with newspaper supplements, radio advertising, contests, special promotions, and special events at truck stops and roadside inspection stations.

Carriers and industry suppliers have hosted BBQs, breakfasts, truck washes, offered special giveaways to employees and marked the week event with a wide variety of activities.

It takes everyone at McConnell Transport to move the freight.  We are all part of the over 400,000 people who keep the freight moving – office, drivers, shop and everyone in between work hard TOGETHER to keep it all moving forward.

Trailer Tails

McConnell Transport has recently commenced utilization of additional equipment with technology to improve a trailer’s fuel efficiency by over 5% without hindering cargo capacity, loading or unloading.  McConnell Transport is very excited to be able to continue with the fuel efficiency improvements we have set as a continuous goal.

The technology to streamline the airflow around a semi-trailer will reduce the low pressure suction drag that occurs at the back of the trailer which acts as a vacuum pulling the trailer backward and reducing its fuel efficiency.

This technology saves an average of 8 gallons of diesel fuel for every 1,000 miles a truck drives and every gallon of fuel not burned reduces the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the air, keeping our air cleaner and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.

National Trucking Week 2013

McConnell Transport Ltd recently celebrated National Trucking Week, which ran from September 1 – 7, 2013. Every driver and employee was treated to a “goodie” bag that was filled with great items, all courtesy of our generous suppliers. There was also a great BBQ put on for everyone in attendance as well as draws for a great number of fantastic door prizes! It was certainly a very successful week, and we are already looking forward to NTW 2014!100_9347
